  • The Fight Within Me is a short film and companion documentary project centered on the untold stories of Black soldiers during the Korean War. Through cinematic storytelling and historical exploration, the project examines brotherhood, sacrifice, identity, and the lasting emotional impact of war, while honoring veterans whose stories have too often gone unheard.

  • Many Korean War veterans are now in their late years, making this a critical moment to preserve firsthand stories before they are lost. The project also highlights overlooked perspectives in American history and encourages conversations about service, race, legacy, and remembrance.

  • Yes. The Fight Within Me is inspired by the real story and experiences of PFC Jimmy B. Hackworth and his time serving in a small integrated landmine sweeping unit along the Korean DMZ during the Korean War. The project is also informed by extensive historical research, firsthand accounts, and the broader lived experiences of Black soldiers who served during the war. While certain dramatic elements are fictionalized for cinematic storytelling, the heart of the film is grounded in authentic history, real sacrifice, and the emotional truths of those who lived it.

  • Supporters can help by sharing the project online, following the film on social media, connecting the team with educators or organizations, attending screenings, volunteering resources, and helping amplify these stories within their communities.

  • This project blends cinematic narrative storytelling with historical preservation. Rather than focusing solely on battles or military strategy, The Fight Within Me centers on the emotional, cultural, and personal experiences of the African American soldiers themselves particularly, since their stories have historically been overlooked.

  • The short film is a cinematic narrative piece designed to emotionally immerse audiences in the story and serve as a proof of concept for a larger series. The documentary component expands into the real history behind the film through interviews, research, historical context, and firsthand accounts.

  • The Fight Within Me is being developed and produced in Los Angeles, with collaboration from creatives, historians, veterans, and supporters connected to both American and Korean history.
